Adhere to all the speed limits and be considerate of other drivers sharing the road with you.

The top 10 most heavily congested roads in and around Melbourne according to the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) and the Melbourne community are:

  1. Springvale Road in Glen Waverley
  2. Plenty Road in Bundoora
  3. Springvale Road in Springvale
  4. Bell Street in Preston
  5. Doncaster Road in Doncaster

These stretches of road are known for heavy traffic, which leads to many drivers taking risks, running red lights or not paying proper attention to the road. Other common crash spots include the intersection of Princes Highway, Police Road and Springvale Road in Springvale ; Sayers Road and Tarneit Road in Hoppers Crossing; Hallam Road and Ormond Road in Lynbrook;Cranbourne-Frankston Road and Union Road in Langwarrin; Ballarat Road and Anderson Road in Sunshine;Victoria Street and Peel Street in Parkville; and Maroondah Highway and Mount Dandenong Road in Ringwood.

While many of these known accident hotspots are in the process of receiving upgrades to the road conditions to help make them safer for drivers and less congested, we highly recommend that you continue to take extra care when travelling these routes while the improvements are being made.
