The Worst Roads in Redcliffe

There are a number of roads around Redcliffe that are notoriously dangerous for drivers. We advise you to take extra care when navigating these roads, always adhere to the speed limits and be aware of other drivers sharing the road with you. It is always better to avoid a roadside emergency or accident, but if you ever find yourself in an emergency situation, you know you can depend on TOW to come to your rescue.

Deception Bay Road in Deception Bay has several dangerous intersections in the 8km stretch between the Rothwell roundabout and the Bruce Highway, with police attending to a crash almost every few days. The four-way intersection at Deception Bay Road, Lipscombe Road and Park Road is particularly common, where motorists share the busy road with pedestrians and cyclists. Local police are currently in talks with council to give the stretch of road black spot status, in order to receive more funding to improve its quality.

The King Street and Victoria Avenue intersection is another very busy section of road, and even though the speed limit is reduced to a 40km/h school zone during peak hours many drivers still don’t slow down enough.

Roundabouts on main roads are also a particular problem, with the most notorious ones being the Klingner Road and Boardman road roundabout , the Klingner Road and Ashmole Road roundabout, the Anzac Avenue and Deception Bay Road roundabout in Rothwell, the Victoria Road and Duffield Road roundabout, and the Victoria Road and Macdonnell Road roundabout.

Snook Street has a number of very busy intersections, especially during peak hours. Crossing the busy main road between George Street and Miller Street, and across Macdonnell Road, results in a lot of crashes caused by drivers taking risks.

Hornibrook Esplanade has a few bends that can be difficult to negotiate if drivers aren’t paying proper attention or are driving too fast, and there have been several serious accidents on this road that have resulted in fatalities.

Redcliffe Road Policing Unit have labelled the Anzac Avenue/Boardman Road/Elizabeth Avenue area to be one of the worst in the Peninsula, with many drivers being impatient and not paying enough attention to other drivers. Rear-enders and illegal U-turns are common causes of collisions on these busy roads.

Distracted Drivers are Causing the Majority of Accidents on Redcliffe Roads

The Redcliffe District Traffic Branch lists the top 5 ways local drivers are being distracted while they’re driving:

1. Using mobile phones

2. Changing CD’s and choosing music

3. Reading newspapers and books

4. Eating

5. Getting dressed and applying make-up

These distractions are all unnecessary and drivers should be focusing all their attention on the road when they are driving, to prevent accidents and collisions. We highly advise all drivers to give their complete attention to the road and leave the distractions at home.

If you are caught driving without due care and attention, or dangerous driving, you can get charged with a fine, lose demerit points or lose your licence, and even get sentenced with jail time.
